Good afternoon, Church Family

Today is Halloween, and our homes will be visited by lots of little (and not so little) kids in costumes.  Two weeks ago at church, I shared this quote about Halloween.

“Halloween is a day when we get it right. Strangers come to us: beautiful, ugly, odd, or scary, and we accept them all without question, compliment them, treat them kindly, and give them good things.  Why don’t we live like that?”  (Steve Garnass-Holmes).

I have given a lot of thought about that quote over the last couple of weeks.  Putting aside any controversy about Halloween itself, the sentiment in the quote is quite Christ-like.

Christ loved the unlovable. And the lovable.  He accepted the rich and kind, for sure.

But He also welcomed women and children.  He chatted it up with a promiscuous Samaritan woman and sent her off as a missionary.  He embraced a demon possessed woman. He welcomed and accepted a wretched tax collector. He embraced the blind and the leper.  He cared for the families of his disciples. He cared for his own family.

Today, when the kids start arriving at your door for yummies, and we see kids dressed up as demons, princesses, firemen, clowns, action heroes, and witches; we will give each of them treats and smiles. Big smiles.

But when it is November 1 and we see our fellow human beings as different than us in their dress, their foul language, their cleanliness, their addictions, their loneliness, their neediness, remember that we should still greet them with compassion, patience, and the goodness of dignity.  It is a Christ thing to do.

Romans 13: These – and other such commandments – are summed up in this one commandment: “Love your neighbour as yourself.”  Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s Law.

Advent is around the corner.  We are having our annual Christmas Tree Carol Decorating Service on November 24.  Advent readings and ornament readings will be available on November 10 and 17.

We are celebrating Communion this Sunday.

We are having potluck on November 10.

Scrapbooking  is cancelled today, but will resume on November 7. It takes place on Thursday evenings. Bible Study begins at 6:45, and Scrapbooking begins at 7:30. The theme this year is “Unveiled: Women of the Old Testament”

Tuesday morning Bible Study takes place at the church at 9:30. They will be continuing their study on the book of Mark.

Remember that there is Wednesday morning Prayer time at 9:30. A coffee time begins at 10:00 – everyone is welcome.

SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR ALL AGES:     Adult Sunday School will be meeting in the sanctuary and Children’s Sunday School will be meeting at the back classrooms. This runs from 10:00am – 10:40am.  There is NO SUNDAY SCHOOL ON NOVEMBER 10

Hampton Free Methodist Church in Saskatoon is putting on a Dinner Theatre called “A Comedy Café: Four Zany One Act Plays”. Noah Vankoughnett-Mouland is part of that Dinner Theatre, so if you happen to be in Saskatoon that weekend, consider checking out this event. See poster for more details.

Please pray for the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and in the Middle East.

OUR MISSIONARIES: Jason and Joanne Borrowman, and Hannah.  Please pray for Joanne: that her pregnancy will continue to go well.  They have a very busy November, so please pray for good health for everyone and safe travels as they will be on the road a lot.

Pray for the upcoming elections in Prince Albert.

Pray for safety as many children will be out trick or treating tonight.

Praise God that Ewen MacLeod is out of the hospital.

Praise God that Cathy Bendle is out of her cast and in a walking boot.

Pray for Jaden Clark who has injured his knee and will be in a full leg brace for a number of weeks.

Pray for George Hermatiuk who was diagnosed with cancer and is in considerable pain. Pray for Maryanne as well.

Pray for the Free Methodist Retirement community, Light and Life Free Methodist Park, that is in Lakeland, Florida. It was hammered by Hurricane Milton. Many folks lost everything.  Pray for others hit by the hurricane.

Pray for Jayme Borrowman who finally was able to get her gallbladder surgery. Pray for her healing as she is experiencing some infection. Pray also for her partner, Bobby, that he would find additional work opportunities.

Pray for Sandra Langlois who has some upcoming diagnostic appointments. Please pray that she will get the doctor’s “ok” to come back to church. Pray for her continued healing.

Pray for Bobbi Dorian. She had her MRI and they discovered some blood flow issues affecting nerves near her ears. With surgery, they may be able to stop the noises and problems in her right ear!  This is great news. Unfortunately, it could take months before there is an opening for that surgery.  Let us surround Bobbi with our prayers: that there would be a miraculous opening for that surgery in a very short time frame. Pray that the insistent ringing in her ears will stop!!

Pray for Lois Borrowman: Pray for a quick sale of her house. Pray for her upcoming knee surgery.

Pray for Darlene Peters who has been having some long-term health concerns. Pray for the doctors, and for effective medications.

Pray for the Board: that God would give us direction for the church, and for the fall programs.

Pray for Chrissy Clark’s family. Her aunt, uncle, and cousin are all battling cancer. Pray for her mom who is finding this very stressful, and it is weighing heavy on her heart. All three of the people are on Chrissy’s mother’s side.

Please continue to pray for others in our church with health issues.

Pray for the people in our congregation, or people who are connected with those who are struggling with mental health issues, particularly with anxiety and depression. Pray that they would receive the medical help needed during these difficult diagnoses and treatment. Pray that they would hear the encouragement of our Saviour over dark thoughts.

Pray for the Prodigals in our lives – that they will remember the goodness of the Father’s House and come home.

Let us pray that our congregation will grow, and that we will be able to attentively meet the needs of our visitors and regular attendees alike.

Pray for Pastor Anne Martin (former congregant of Cornerstone) who is pastoring the Pimento Walk Church in Jamaica.

Pray for the people in our community that are struggling with housing and food insecurity in Prince Albert. Pray for the community programs ministering to them. As the weather is getting colder, the need for shelter becomes greater.

Pray for Pastor Dyan and the Board as they listen to what God has to say about His great plans for Cornerstone.  Let us continue to pray that our church will grow.

Many of our congregants (and their loved ones) are struggling with various health and mental health issues. Pray for their healing. Pray specifically for our young people who have many stresses and anxieties.

Cornerstone needs to replace one, possibly two of our furnaces. This will come to just over $10,000. We are currently unable to use the Fellowship Hall due to the cold.  Please consider adding to your regular giving if you are able. Please indicate on your Offering Envelope if you are wanting to give towards the furnaces.image.png

We are so very thankful for your ongoing generousity. Cornerstone keeps its doors open and participates in ministry due to your willingness to give of your tithes and offerings. In order to pay all of our bills, we need to receive about $7,000 each month. UPDATE: once a month, we will post a financial update in our bulletins and in this email update.

AUGUST INCOME: $8928   AUGUST EXPENSES: $6729.29

SEPTEMBER INCOME: $9160    SEPTEMBER EXPENSES: 8665.35

Pray that we will meet our bills and be able to continue participating in Kingdom Building and Church Care.  Please remember Cornerstone in your regular giving.

Reminder that we now have e-transfer as another way to give to the church. E-transfers go to etransfer@cfmcpa.ca   Two things to remember when sending an e-transfer to Cornerstone.  1.  The Security Question can be anything you like, but please ALWAYS make the Security Answer ilovemychurch (no spaces). 2. If you wish to give for a specific purpose just make a note of it in the message/comments box when you send the e-transfer.

You can also send a cheque to the church or donate during the service.  2200 – 15 Ave East . Prince Albert, Sk  S6V 6J5.

Please remember to PRAY FOR OUR CONGREGATION.  Be ALL IN FOR PRAYER.  Below is a list of our congregants. I have divided them into five groups. My challenge is that we pray for every person in one of the groups on one particular day, AND that we try to do TEN MINUTES of prayer for our church each day. By following the schedule, we can make sure that everyone is prayed for during the week. If you notice someone missing from the list, please let Pastor Dyan know. If you would like to be added to the list, please let Pastor Dyan know. The power of prayer is amazing. Ephesians 6:18 says And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. As a pastor, it is my prayer that we all (myself included) fall in love with praying.
