CORNERSTONE FREE METHODIST CHURCH

December 26, 2024

Good afternoon, Church family.

I trust you had a blessed Christmas Day, and are continuing to enjoy family and friends.  Although Christmas was yesterday, I am sending you the final candle lighting reading today.

Programs are starting up again soon:

–       Sunday School resumes on January 5.

–       Tuesday Morning Bible Study resumes January 7.

–       Scrapbooking: TBD

Reading Scripture is very important and we want to provide tools to help you.  Here is a challenge:  I have attached a “Bible in one year” schedule.  It is designed weekly, instead of daily. This gives you the freedom to work around your fluctuating schedule.  Why don’t you grab an accountability partner from the church (or from a friend or family member) and check in with each other during the week to support one another in this important journey.

Please remember that Cornerstone Free Methodist Church is hosting Children’s Choice Child Development Cooperative (daycare and afterschool program) weekdays for the next couple of months while they are dealing with an insurance claim.  This means that the Daycare is now using our Fellowship Hall, two smaller classrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, fireside room, and parking lot from 7am to 5:30 pm every weekday.  The Fellowship Hall and kitchen will be available on weekends. While the Daycare is using our space, please do not use any of their supplies, food, nor use the two smaller classrooms. As a Board, we are excited about this temporary partnership and are thrilled to be able to help with the needs of our community

We have new exterior side doors and new furnaces!!!  The generosity of our congregation is overwhelming, and we have raised OVER $10,000!!!

This Sunday is our traditional JEOPARDY SUNDAY. It’s a crowd favourite and we are looking forward to seeing you all.

Thank you everyone for your prayerful and financial support of Cornerstone FM Church.  Donation Receipts: All year-end donations need to be received at the church by December 31, 2024 and cheques need to be dated before January 1 in order to receive a charitable tax receipt for 2024. Even though the mail strike is now over, mail delivery has been delayed and we cannot guarantee any cheques mailed will reach us before December 31, so please consider alternative ways to give, including e-transfer or directly at church through cash or cheque.

CHRISTMAS FOR CARLTON –  Working alongside mentors from Carlton, a list of homeless youth was identified, and each youth was asked to put together a small Christmas wish list. All of the gifts were assembled and put into bags that had the gifts, water bottles, candies, fresh baking, mitts, toques, deodorant, AND A Christmas Card from our church.  THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!  Thank you so much to the Cornerstone Girls for making this happen.

Reaching Out Ministry is looking for volunteers to help serve food this Sunday (December 29). Reaching Out provides food year-round and some clothing as well. Cornerstone has connected with them at various times over the last few years. For more information, please contact Roberta Krider at 306-980-7968.

Morning snacks (before the service) are traditionally shared during advent. If you want to bring some baking, fruit, crackers, etc, to share on a Sunday during advent, please do so.  There is no sign-up sheet – just bring some if you want.

Remember that there is Wednesday morning Prayer time at 9:30. A coffee time begins at 10:00 – everyone is welcome.

There is a young man from Moose Jaw looking for accommodation in the new year while he attends Polytech for a semester. If you would like to learn more about this, please contact Gord Hallett at 306-513-8765.

Upcoming Event Schedule:

December 29: Jeopardy

January 5: Jason Borrowman preaches. (Chad, Noah, and Pastor Dyan are away).

We are well into winter. Please pray for safety on the road. Pray for those who need shelter from the cold.

Pray for Asia Borrowman who is having some stomach issues.

Pray for those young people from our Christmas for Carlton project. Pray that they would be able to stay in school. Pray for their housing situation.

Praise God for the connections made with the daycare and after school program.

Pray for Maxine Holden who has been ill for a number of weeks. Pray for her recovery.

Pray for George Hermatiuk who was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. His pain is being managed. Pray for Maryanne as well.

Pray for Jayme Borrowman who has been having a number of health issues and is undergoing many tests.

Pray for Caleb Sigstad and his very busy schedule.

Pray for Debbie and Darwin who are returning from New Zealand this week. Pray for safe travels.

Pray for Sandra Langlois who has continued to have health issues. She has started taking some good healing steps, but recovery is slow.  Please pray that she will get the doctor’s “ok” to come back to church. Pray for her continued healing.  This note came from her to the church: “Please convey my thanks and appreciation to all those who have been praying for me. Tell them God heard their prayers.”

Pray for Bobbie Dorian who is still waiting for treatment to deal with her hearing and debilitating tinnitus.  Unfortunately, it could take months before there is an opening for needed surgery.  Let us surround Bobbi with our prayers: that there would be a miraculous opening for that surgery in a very short time frame. Pray that the insistent ringing in her ears will stop!!

Pray for Lois Borrowman who is scheduled to have her knee surgery in January. Pray that she would be healthy enough for the surgery.

Pray for Darlene Peters who has been having some long-term health concerns. Pray for the doctors, and for effective medications.

Pray for the Board: that God would give us direction for the church, and for the new programs starting and re-starting in January.

Please continue to pray for others in our church with health issues.

Pray for the people in our congregation, or people who are connected with those who are struggling with mental health issues, particularly with anxiety and depression. Pray that they would receive the medical help needed during these difficult diagnoses and treatment. Pray that they would hear the encouragement of our Saviour over dark thoughts.

Pray for the Prodigals in our lives – that they will remember the goodness of the Father’s House and come home.

Let us pray that our congregation will grow, and that we will be able to attentively meet the needs of our visitors and regular attendees alike.

Pray for Pastor Anne Martin (former congregant of Cornerstone) who is pastoring the Pimento Walk Church in Jamaica.

Pray for the people in our community that are struggling with housing and food insecurity in Prince Albert. Pray for the community programs ministering to them. Now that it is winter, the need for shelter becomes greater.

Pray for Pastor Dyan and the Board as they listen to what God has to say about His great plans for Cornerstone.  Let us continue to pray that our church will grow.

Many of our congregants (and their loved ones) are struggling with various health and mental health issues. Pray for their healing. Pray specifically for our young people who have many stresses and anxieties.

Donation Receipts: All year-end donations need to be received at the church by December 31, 2024 and cheques need to be dated before January 1 in order to receive a charitable tax receipt for 2024. NOTE: even though the mail strike has ended, it is unlikely all of the mail will reach us before December 31, so please consider alternative ways to give, including e-transfer, or directly at the church.

We are so very thankful for your ongoing generosity. Cornerstone keeps its doors open and participates in ministry due to your willingness to give of your tithes and offerings. In order to pay all of our bills, we need to receive about $7,000 each month. UPDATE: once a month, we will post a financial update in our bulletins and in this email update.

Pray that we will meet our bills and be able to continue participating in Kingdom Building and Church Care.  Please remember Cornerstone in your regular giving.

Reminder that we now have e-transfer as another way to give to the church. E-transfers go to etransfer@cfmcpa.ca   Two things to remember when sending an e-transfer to Cornerstone.  1.  The Security Question can be anything you like, but please ALWAYS make the Security Answer ilovemychurch (no spaces). 2. If you wish to give for a specific purpose just make a note of it in the message/comments box when you send the e-transfer.

You can also send a cheque to the church or donate during the service.  2200 – 15 Ave East . Prince Albert, Sk  S6V 6J5  NOTE: due to the postal strike, mail will be very delayed for some time.

Please remember to PRAY FOR OUR CONGREGATION.  Be ALL IN FOR PRAYER.  Below is a list of our congregants. I have divided them into five groups. My challenge is that we pray for every person in one of the groups on one particular day, AND that we try to do TEN MINUTES of prayer for our church each day. By following the schedule, we can make sure that everyone is prayed for during the week. If you notice someone missing from the list, please let Pastor Dyan know. If you would like to be added to the list, please let Pastor Dyan know. The power of prayer is amazing. Ephesians 6:18 says And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. As a pastor, it is my prayer that we all (myself included) fall in love with praying.
